Chichester College’s Riverside Theatre Comes Alive with 9 to 5: The Musical 

The Riverside Theatre at Chichester College was filled with energy and excitement as Musical Theatre students staged a vibrant production of 9 to 5: The Musical.  

Musical Theatre students had the entire audience laughing and singing along, from songs including the title song ‘9 to 5’ to the lively ensemble piece ‘Around Here’.  

Performers were supported behind the scenes by Production Arts and Stage Management students, as well as Stage Management and Technical Theatre students, who both formed the backstage crew for the outstanding performance.  

Together, the collaboration of students delivered a polished performance that highlighted both creative talent and technical skill.  

Based on the hit film, the musical follows three women who unite to challenge their sexist and egotistical boss in a 1970s workplace. Featuring music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, the show mixes sharp comedy with a powerful message of equality, empowerment and friendship.  

Family, friends and former students filled the auditorium to support this year’s cohort, creating a warm and celebratory atmosphere for the performers on stage.  

Helen Loftus, Principal of Chichester College, who was delighted to see the performance, summed the evening up, saying:  

“This was a confident, joyful and professional production that truly showcased the talent, teamwork and dedication of our students. It was wonderful to see them engaging the audience so completely and performing with such passion.”
