Chichester College Bricklayers Go Head‑to‑Head in Speed‑Build Showdown

22 April 2026

Some of Chichester College’s finest bricklaying students recently put their skills to the test as they took part in a competition, showcasing their craftsmanship.

Held at Crawley College, the competition saw students compete against one another in a challenging 60-brick speed test.

The competitors were tasked to build a 10-brick-long, six-brick-high wall using set guides and lines, working continuously from start to finish.

Once the wall was completed, students checked that it was straight, stable and built to the correct height, with no twists or uneven sections. The brickwork was then carefully finished, with marks awarded for accuracy, speed, cleanliness and overall appearance.

First prize in the competition was awarded to Vritz Menor of Crawley College. Joint second place went to Jake Anderson and Archie Harden of Chichester College, with third place awarded to Panashe Shatini of Crawley College.

Helen Loftus, Principal of Chichester College, said:
“This competition gave students a valuable chance to apply their skills in a realistic and demanding environment, where accuracy, pace and attention to detail really matter.

“Opportunities like this help bridge the gap between training and the workplace, giving students a clear sense of the standards expected within the construction industry.”
