COURSE OVERVIEW
The Level 2 Public Services Course sits nicely between the level 1 & level 3 award and will allow you to develop your relevant knowledge progressively from a basic level, to one of working competence.
This course is for you, if you are looking to get into any of the UK’s uniformed services, with its diverse and interesting 9 units making it one of the most popular awards to complete with practical elements such as; Physical fitness, Navigation and Outdoor pursuits, combined with units that will help you to develop skills that can be transferred in to every day life; Health and safety, hygiene as well as looking at employment opportunities in services that interest you.
All 9 units are assessed via an on-going manner, with ‘evidence’ going in to your portfolio for assessment – there is NO end of year exam.
This course is interesting and varied, both physically and academically. Be aware that this award has many practical facets and you will need to be willing to take part in personal and physical team challenges, as well as doing research to meet all academic criteria.
FURTHER INFORMATION
You will need 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including grade 3 or above in English Language. You will also be considered if you have successfully completed a Level 1 in Sports & Public Services together with Key Skills in English and Mathematics. You must also successfully complete an interview.
If you do not have GCSE English Language or Mathematics at grade 4 or above, you will be required to take Mathematics and English in order to improve your key skills.
Successful completion of this course will allow you to progress to other courses, including NCFE Level 3 in Uniformed Services, where your skills and knowledge will be further enhanced and refined – Giving you on a firm basis for Service life application.
You may also decide to apply to join one of the Armed Forces by taking their entrance exams. If you do this your course team will be able to assist you.
You will demonstrate your knowledge throughout the year by means of work you submit over the year in a portfolio. You will be supported in your studies by having all your course materials put onto our ChiOnline to access remotely, if needed.
Practical assessments are regularly used along with self-reflection, peer and tutor feedback, to indicate your areas of strength and areas of future development.
You do not require any equipment other than a pen and paper. Smart phones can be useful for in-class research challenges but are definitely not a requirement.
Costs to the course are kept to the minimum with total costs amounting to no more than £200 over the year. Costs are generally spread over the year with financial support available to you if you are eligible, please see the “College Life” section of our website for more information on financial support.
