COURSE OVERVIEW
This course is for you if you want to learn about a variety of topics related to sport and exercise science, including anatomy and physiology, psychology, biomechanics and more.
You will study six units in the first year; these units offer both practical and theoretical teaching:
- Four units are coursework.
- Two units will be exam based.
In second year of the course you will learn about more vocational areas, these include sports injuries, massage, nutrition and more.
- Five units are coursework.
- Two units will be exam based.
The course is nationally recognised and with successful completion of both years will provide you with grades/UCAS Points that are the equivalent of three GCE A’;Levels (Level 3) which will support the opportunity to progress onto University, or further studies in Fitness or employment in the sports and leisure industry.

To successfully join and be prepared to complete this qualification you will need either:
- Five GCSEs at grade 4 – 9*. These must include a GCSE English Language and Mathematics at grade 4 or above
OR
- BTEC Diploma in a related subject graded a minimum of a Merit and GCSE Mathematics and English Language at grade 4 or above
Students can progress from a Level 2 Diploma in Sports or Uniformed Services as long as they hold a successful Merit in their previous course and complete a successful retake of GCSE Maths and/or English Language.
A course leader interviews all applicants to discuss their options in sports studies.
Upon successful completion of both years; this course will give you the opportunity to progress onto university courses in the field of sport, sports science and other related fields of study.
Past students have successfully progressed to join further studies Sports Coaching, P.E. Teaching, Sports Therapy, Sports Rehabilitation and Sports Science degrees.
The College also offers students who have a Merit or Distinction grade the opportunity to complete a third year at Chichester College in Qualifications:
- Level 2 Fitness and Level 3 Personal Training
- Level 3 Assisted PE Teaching
- Level 3 Sports Coaching

You will be assessed through a variety of assessment methods, all of which are aimed at a more vocational method of study.
These include:
• Presentations
• Exams
• Practical observations and Demonstrations
• Written Assignments
All learners will have access to assessments online through a skills hub platform.
The skills hub will also include an abundance of learning resources, textbooks, and mock exams to help develop learning on the course.
There is a £100 charge for this course which will pay for the two years of the course and covers the cost of your textbook, trips and activities and course kit.
