Apprenticeship Toolkit

To help you get started, we’ve put together a few tips you can go through to find your dream apprenticeship. For more advice and support, please contact our Apprenticeship Team on 01243 812948 or email apprenticeships@chichester.ac.uk.

Search for vacancies online

Regularly check our apprenticeship vacancies page or visit the National Apprenticeship Service. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, then talk to us on 01243 812948 and we will try to find you an employer who will take you on as an apprentice.

Approach employers directly

If you have your heart set on working for a particular company or industry, then approaching them directly might be your best bet. You can contact an employer by phone and ask to speak to the person responsible for hiring new staff. Alternatively, you can approach an employer in person with a copy of your CV to hand.

Convert work experience into employment

Ask an employer for work experience, make a great impression, then find out whether they would be interested in hiring you as an apprentice. If they say yes, then simply provide us with the details. We will then contact the employer directly, so that you can begin your apprenticeship at the earliest opportunity.

Volunteering

Start by volunteering to help build your experience, make connections and get your foot in the door for an apprenticeship.

Ask your family or a friend

Chat to family and friends to find out if they know someone who is looking to hire an apprentice.

Ask your current employer

Already employed? Don’t be afraid to ask your employer if they would be willing to put you on an apprenticeship programme. Your employer will most likely be eligible for government funding to cover some or all funding costs.

How to write a CV or cover letter

If you’re applying for an apprenticeship, you will need to write a CV and a cover letter to prove you’re a great match for the job.

You can download and use our CV and cover letter templates to help you get started, or speak to our Progression+ Team for advice and guidance.
