Charitable students raise hundreds for hospice

21 May 2023

Chichester College hospitality students recently teamed up to organise a charity event to raise life-changing funds for St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

Each year students on the level 3 hospitality BTEC course are assigned the task of choosing a charity to support through a well-planned out fundraising event.

Earlier this month guests attended a special evening which saw one team raise an incredible £819.10 for St Wilfrid’s – one of the highest amounts the department has raised for a single charity in one event.

Sophia Wilcox, one of the students involved, said: “It was such an enjoyable experience and each of us are so glad that we raised this amount.

“We chose this charity in particular as it is close to all of us and the team there are so important in supporting the local community through hard times.”

On Wednesday 16 May, all six of the students involved in the fundraiser were able to present the cheque to Victoria Chomka, Cooperate and Community Fundraiser at St Wilfrid’s, who was impressed with the project from start to finish.

Victoria said: “From the very offset the students have done brilliantly and guests on the night gave such fantastic feedback on their meals and the general atmosphere of the dinner.

“Each of the team members should be proud of their hard work and raising such a great amount for such an important cause.”

The purpose of St Wilfrid’s Hospice is to provide special care for people who have life limiting illnesses or who are in the last phase of their lives.

Matthew Reed, programme lead in hospitality at Chichester College, said: “As always, our students came together so well in this project.

“Seeing how creative, organised and presentable the students performed leading up and then on the event, assures me that our students are working toward such great careers in the hospitality industry.”
