COURSE OVERVIEW
This course will cover various aspects of the sport industry, developing your confidence in sport subject knowledge, leadership, coaching ability and team work.
This is the course for you if you learn through a variety of practical and theoretical sessions. We give you the opportunity to learn new skills and put them into action.
It is about learning in a fun and enjoyable environment, experiencing lessons not only in the classroom, but in the local surroundings and facilities.
FURTHER INFORMATION
School leavers will need 2 GCSEs at grade 4 or above.
English and/or Mathematics are desirable – especially if you wish to progress onto the Level 3 90 Credit Sport / Sport Science or Active IQ Fitness courses.
If your Maths and/or English grade is below a 4 grade for GCSE and you are under 19, you will be required to study and retake these subjects as part of your college studies and attend all classes to support this endeavour.
Students can progress from a Level 1 Diploma in Sports or Uniformed Services as long as they hold a successful Merit in their previous course and complete a successful interview.
All applicants are interviewed by a course leader to discuss their options in sports studies.
If you are successful on this course, it can lead to progression onto the BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Sport / Sport Science or Football Coaching L2.
It can also lead to career opportunities in the Sport, Leisure & Fitness industry, for example a Trainee Instructor in a Leisure Centre or an apprenticeship in Fitness Instructing.
Progression into further studies or employment will be discussed during your year as you are supported through PDP (Personal Development Workshops) and pastoral support with your Student Tutor. For more details visit our webpage: Student Services | Chichester College
This course is 100% assessed through coursework and practical tasks or projects:

• Written portfolio work
• Multiple choice exams
• Practical observations
• Assignments
• Data collection
You will be assessed through a combination of practical and theory work which will be used as evidence to contribute to a portfolio.
The portfolio of work you produce will be graded at either Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*.
There is no cost for this course, however throughout the year you will have the opportunity to take part in optional trips for a small fee.
Also, the sports department offer an opportunity to buy a optional college sports kit on the college website before your course starts.
