COURSE OVERVIEW
Your course will explore a variety of topics from within the sporting industry.
This will include (not exclusively):
- anatomy and physiology (exam unit)
- coaching
- sports psychology
- fitness
- sports leadership
- fitness
- sports performance
- sports industry (exam unit)
You will experience both practical and theoretical methods of teaching and learning.
You will be studying full time on a course that is, upon successful completion of both years; equivalent to three A Levels. Additionally, as part of your programme you will have allocated time for Academy training and fixtures.
FURTHER INFORMATION
To successfully join and be prepared to complete this qualification you will need either:
- Five GCSEs at grade 4 – 9*. These must include a GCSE English Language and Mathematics at grade 4 or above
OR
- BTEC Diploma in a related subject graded a minimum of a Merit and GCSE Mathematics and English Language at grade 4 or above
Students can progress from a Level 2 Diploma in Sports or Uniformed Services as long as they hold a successful Merit in their previous course and complete a successful retake of GCSE Maths and/or English Language.
A course leader interviews all applicants to discuss their options in sports studies.
By choosing this qualification you will be starting your journey to many potential careers within the sports industry including roles such as PE Teaching or working within the fitness sector.
Upon successful completion of both years; this course will give you the opportunity to progress onto university courses in the field of sport, sports science and other related fields of study.
Past students have successfully progressed to join further studies Sports Coaching, P.E. Teaching degrees or employment in the sports industry.
The College also offers students who have a Merit or Distinction grade the opportunity to complete a third year at Chichester College in Qualifications:
- Level 2 Fitness and Level 3 Personal Training
- Level 3 Assisted PE Teaching
- Level 3 Sports Coaching

This two year qualification is designed with a more vocational method of study.
Assessment methods are mainly coursework based and there will also be some exams.
The coursework based assessment(s) will vary according to your needs and chosen to maximise you potential in a fun and exciting environment.
You maybe asked to give a presentation, conduct research, lead a practical session, or organise a group activity.
Each student will pay £120 per year to cover the costs of the course trips, visits, kit and equipment. This includes several visits and trips.
- Practical kit is essential daily
- Laptops are conducive to learning and in out of the classroom
- Folders, pens and paper are necessary in all sessions
- There will be a charge for any exam resit
