COURSE OVERVIEW
The VTCT Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management is a vocationally related qualification that will prepare you to gain employment as a salon manager as the units in this qualification cover all the skills and knowledge required for this role. This course is one and a half days a week in college ( anticipated to be a Monday and one other day), a recommended 8 hours of home study and the remainder of the week is in your industry related employment. The units you will study include :- Health and safety in the salon Quality management of client care in the sector Public relations in the sector Salon management Sales Management Laser and light treatments for hair removal Laser and light treatments for skin rejuvenation Your lessons will consist of blended learning and include presentations, lectures, assignments and portfolio building alongside your work placement/employment. Independent study outside of college and work will be necessary to complete your portfolio of evidence.
FURTHER INFORMATION
Anyone can apply for this course who has gained a level 3 qualification in beauty therapy. All candidates should also be in relevant work or have access to work experience to complete these qualifications. Proof of employment will be required at interview stage. If you are self employed a letter confirming your status could be from your registered accountant, bookkeeper, landlord or financial paperwork could be considered. This is equivalent to the first year of a foundation degree and therefore 5 GCSE Grade 4-9 is required as a minimum and this must include English and preferably Maths. There is a considerable amount of assignment work and you should have a basic level of knowledge in Microsoft Office in particular Word, PowerPoint and Excel. As a student of CCG you are able to obtain Microsoft Office for free to use throughout your studies.
Your career opportunities as a salon manager exist in variety of contexts including: Opportunities to start or grow your own business and many students start their business whilst on the course and use the skills learnt throughout the course to expand and develop strategies for success. Beauty salons Hair salons Nail salons Beauty/Nail retail concessions in department stores Day spa or destination hotel spas Cruise ships You can also complete further study at Level 5.
You will be required to develop your research skills and work independently and be very self motivated to meet the required deadlines. All units will have written assignments and some will have both written assignments and practical assessments to complete the unit /qualification. The meeting of deadlines is an essential part of the course, so the development of a study schedule to adhere to would show evidence of effective time management and self motivation.
Kit and uniform will be discussed in full at the interview and the approximate costs for these would be £100 with any additional costs for recommended books should you wish to purchase them. There is an additional cost of approximately £200 to cover consumable items used throughout the duration of the course as well as product training. A book list will be given out at interview and these can be purchased independently or borrowed from a library.
