Level 1
Level 1 Diploma in an Introduction to Hair and Beauty Sector (beauty route)
COURSE OVERVIEW
This level 1 course will have both a hairdressing and beauty therapy route. When applying for the course you can state which route you are interested in most.
All students on the course will cover all the same units except for when beauty students are covering facial/skincare, hairdressing students will be performing the hairdressing practical unit.
All students on the course will also learn manicure, pedicure and make-up. The course will give you the confidence you need to treat clients and offer a high standard of service in our commercial Oasis Hair & Beauty Spa.
Practical classes will take place in our modern, well equipped salons at The Chichester Campus, you will have access to the latest tools, products and equipment in a realistic commercial setting.
As well as your main programme of study you will have the opportunity to take on other additional courses such as spray tanning, ear piercing and artificial nails.
You will also study Maths and English to enable you to progress to study a level 2 in either Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy
FURTHER INFORMATION
This course is designed for learners leaving school with a minimum of 2 GCSE’s, preferably in English and Maths, at a grade 2 or equivalent.
A positive attitude, enthusiasm towards learning and attendance is important. Your progress will be reviewed regularly throughout the year.
After completing your level 1 course successfully you can then apply for either level 2 beauty therapy, level 2 hairdressing or level 2 hair and make-up artistry.
Progression is dependant on GCSE results, general attitude and enthusiasm to learning, attendance to main level 1 course as well as Maths and English lessons.
You will be assessed practically on clients within the commercial salons where we will focus on time keeping, hygiene and treatment skills.
Your theory knowledge will be assessed through assignments and an end of year multiple choice written exam.
The course requires a uniform, a hair and beauty kit (text book included) and a portfolio.
The cost of the above is approximately £300. All students are also required to pay £60 per year for consumables.
Funding for kits and uniform can be applied for through student finance if eligibility criteria are met.
