Engineering Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship
COURSE OVERVIEW
Engineering Operatives are predominantly involved in engineering operations which are key to the success of the Manufacturing and Engineering sector allowing employers to grow their business while developing a work force with the relevant skills and knowledge to enhance the sustain the sector.Your role covers a wide range of common and job specific skills sets that can be transferred across the manufacturing engineering industry sectors during the course of their careers. Dependent on the sector that they are employed in there may be subtle differences in terms of composition and application of the job role specific skills and knowledge they will require, however the core skills and knowledge will be the same regardless of the sector/area they work in.

As an apprentice you will need to be employed in a relevant role.Engineering Operatives are predominantly involved in engineering operations which are key to the success of the Manufacturing and Engineering sector allowing employers to grow their business while developing a work force with the relevant skills and knowledge to enhance the sustain the sector.The role covers a wide range of common and job specific skills sets that can be transferred across the manufacturing engineering industry sectors during the course of their careers. Dependent on the sector that they are employed in there may be subtle differences in terms of composition and application of the job role specific skills and knowledge they will require, however the core skills and knowledge will be the same regardless of the sector/area they work in.If you don’t already have the correct level of English and maths when you start, you will be required to achieve these at Level 2.
You will typically gain employment in the engineering sector and undertake new training appropriate to your role.
You will build a portfolio of evidence for the type of work you carryout at work. You will also be assessed on your knowledge, skills and behaviours that you will develop throughout your apprenticeship. Additionally you will build a log of off the job training that you must complete as part of your apprenticeship. You will complete two mandatory qualifications as part of your apprenticeship. At the end of your apprenticeship you will be assessed through an end point assessment (EPA) once you, your employer and we are satisfied you are ready. This consists of; a practical observation to assess your application of skills within your place of work or in a suitable environment away from the workplace (e.g. In an approved centre). You will also carryout a Professional discussion to holistically assess your knowledge, skills and behaviours across the standard. This assessment is carried out by the endpoint assessment organisation who is independent from the college. There will be plenty of opportunities to practice these skills while you are in your apprenticeship, both at college and while at work.
There is no cost to an apprentice.
If you are an employer employing an apprentice over the age 21 (without an EHCP) then you are likely to pay 5% towards the training cost.
If you are an employer with an Apprenticeship levy (i.e. your payroll exceeds £3 Million) then you will pay in full from your levy account.
You will need to come prepared for both classroom and practical settings at college so you will need to bring a pen and paper and you will also need to provide your own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as overalls and boots for work in the workshops. All other PPE will be provided by us for use at the college.
