Digital Photography Intermediate – Part 1
COURSE OVERVIEW
This course builds on from our Beginners Digital Photography course and will enable you to develop your creative awareness and enjoyment of photography through further knowledge of camera functions, composition, camera techniques and digital manipulation techniques to create that ‘Better Picture.’; By the end of the course you should be able to understand the technical aspects of your own camera, have a better understanding of what makes a good picture and have more control of the outcomes of a photograph.
Topics covered on this course will include:
- The operation of a modern SLR (digital single lens reflex) camera
- Making appropriate choices to improve picture results
- Selection of subject matter and basic composition
- Advanced camera and Photoshop techniques such as HDR, Layer blends, long exposure with of ND filters etc.
- Understanding and evaluating picture quality
This is a 10 week course on a Wednesday evening. The next course is as follows:

FURTHER INFORMATION
Students who want to understand how the creative controls can be used to produce images where they are in control of the camera settings rather than automatic modes.

Continuous classroom assessment based on Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement (RARPA).
Course fees: £220
For the first session you will need:
- Your camera (and the manual if you have one)
- Memory card
- USB lead (to allow connection to a computer)
- Pen
- Notebook
Whilst a digital compact camera is acceptable, to get the most from the course we recommend that students have a DSLR camera (Digital Single Lens Reflex).
