COURSE OVERVIEW
FURTHER INFORMATION
5 A*-C/9-4 grades including a minimum of level 6/B in GCSE Maths and 4/C in English Language, plus a willingness to work hard and persevere when it gets tough. Getting good grades in A Level Mathematics is all about hundreds of hours of repetition.
You will also be required to complete a GCSE to A Level Transition Project, prior to enrolment, to prepare you for A Level Mathematics.
The course provides a good foundation for careers in engineering, economics, operations research, finance, biology, the environment, insurance, software design, medicine, archaeology, social planning, general research and many, many more. Most students will progress to university with this course.
This is a two-year linear A Level where you are examined on the whole syllabus at the end of the second year.
Assessment is via 3 exams at the end of Year 2.
To prepare you for external exams, you will carry out a weekly independent work, exam-style assessments and four Formal Progress Points. We will monitor your attendance, how hard you are working and your academic progress.
All Year 1 students will progress through a Year 1 Gateway dependent on your grades in the Formal Progress Points, that will allow you to progress to Year 2.
There is a supplement of £5 which covers the costs of homework support books for both years of the course, if you want a paper copy of these books.
In addition to this, students will be expected to buy the textbook and a minimum of a Casio Classwiz fx 991EX calculator, though it is highly recommended to purchase a graphical calculator like the Casio CG-50 which can be purchased through the college at a reduced rate (£70).
Minimum Cost: £48
Max Cost: £100
(comprised of £25 for textbook, £23 for Casio Classwiz fx 991EX, or £70 for Graphic Calculator Casio CG-50)
