COURSE OVERVIEW
On this course you will learn how to develop design solutions as you explore how graphic design can communicate ideas and messages. A graphic designer is responsible for much of the design work that we see in our daily lives; logos, magazine layouts, advertisement campaigns, websites and much more. This course encourages you to develop your powers of creativity, problem solving, digital, traditional and practical skills.

You will need a minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 9 – 4 including an art based subject, English Language and maths. At interview you are required to bring a portfolio / sketchbook of art work with you. If you have not studied an art based GCSE you will need to attend a second interview to present a portfolio.
You can go into higher education or directly into the workplace. Exciting career opportunities include Graphic Illustration, Fashion Design, Book or Magazine Design, Publishing, Media, Advertising, Graphic Design, Production Design, Illustration, Printmaking or Landscape Architecture.
This is a two-year A Level where you are examined on the whole course at the end of the second year. Each of your projects will be assessed as a portfolio of work. You will undertake several projects and will learn to work creatively to fulfil a brief. To prepare you for external exams, you will carry out a programme of weekly tests, exam style assessments and Formal Progress Points where you will monitor your attendance, how hard you are working and your academic progress. You will progress through a Year 1 Gateway that will allow you to progress to Year 2.
You will be required to buy your own textbooks, stationary and any subject-related equipment. College computers have Adobe software installed for you to use; however it would be advisable for you to have access to this package to practice your skills at home. A basic art equipment starter kit (purchased through college) is ÂŁ30.
