COURSE OVERVIEW
Film Studies is a lively and exciting course that is designed to introduce you to some of the key concepts that underpin the study of films. You will study a wide variety of films on the course, broadening your knowledge and appreciation of films and different styles and genres of film, including mainstream and independent American and British films from the past and the present, as well as more recent examples of world cinema. This course will allow you to develop your knowledge and understanding of the range of meanings and responses films can generate and will allow you to answer the question, why are films so important to audiences?

You will need 5 GCSEs at grade 9-4, including English language and Maths to be accepted onto this course.
You will also be required to complete a GCSE to A Level Transition Project prior to enrolment, to prepare you for A Level Film Studies.
After this course you can progress onto Higher Education and studying film can lead you to careers in Journalism, Marketing, Public relations and Television/Film development and production. Jobs in film are very varied and include working as a Director, Set Designer, Cinematographer, Editor, Sound editor and more.
This is a two-year A Level where you are examined on the whole syllabus at the end of the second year. You will be assessed through two exams at the end of Year 2, both worth 35%, and a production based component worth 30% that centres on screenwriting. To prepare you for external exams, you will carry out a programme of weekly tests, exam style assessments and Formal Progress Points that will monitor your attendance, how hard you are working and your academic progress. You will progress through a Year 1 Gateway that will allow you to progress to Year 2.
You will be required to buy your own textbooks, stationary and any subject-related equipment.
