A Level Digital Technology
COURSE OVERVIEW
The A level in Computer Science is designed to advance your understanding of the fundamentals of computer systems, programming, data and networking.
You will gain a deeper understanding of how uses of computing can have an impact on wider society.
You will also develop practical skills in programming, networking and communication which will help support your progression into employment in a career utilising digital technologies or onto further study at higher education.

5 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including English Language and a B/6 in Maths. GCSE Computer Science and/or experience using High Level programming languages (e.g. Python. C#) will be a significant advantage to learners. You will also be required to complete a GCSE to A Level Transition Project prior to enrolment.
There are many options for further learning, employment or an apprenticeship. Careers you may wish to explore include Software Development, Systems Analysis, Cyber Security, Network Engineering or Website Designer. You will also develop useful skills in thinking creatively, analytically, logically and critically.
The specification is assessed through two formal exams and a non-exam assessment at the end of the second year of study. There will be regular assessments and formal progress points throughout both the first and second years of the course to help you monitor your progress and development.
Paper 1: This is a two and a half hour written, onscreen exam.
Paper 2: This is a two and a half hour written, onscreen exam.
NEA: This is a non-examined assessment unit which assesses the knowledge and skills gained through the course to solve or investigate a practical problem.
You will be required to buy your own textbooks, stationary and any subject-related equipment.
