Young Tech Talent Impresses at Tech Titans Coding and Cybersecurity Challenge

9 July 2026

Gaming students from Chichester College doffed their coding caps and racked their brains as they participated in the annual Tech Titans Challenge.

The challenge tested their abilities up against counterparts from Brighton MET College, as they took on a series of technical challenges.

On the day, students from Brighton MET clinched the top prize, beating competitors from Chichester to secure first place. All students who took part also received Amazon vouchers in recognition of their participation.

It all began with a systems engineering challenge, which tasked students with utilising virtual machines to tackle hands-on systems engineering, as they undertook a genuine diagnose-and-fix challenge under time pressure instead of a scripted exercise.

The next session saw students focus on smart networking, using specialist programming software such as Cisco Packet Tracer, and covering device automation and network design.

The final session focused on CTF security, as students took part in a ‘capture the flag’ style cybersecurity activity, working through ten practical security challenges, which tasked them with investigating software vulnerabilities.

These activities gave students the opportunity to acquire new skills, gain practical experience, and further develop their existing strengths.

Nathan Smith, lecturer in STEM, Computing and IT at Chichester College, said:
“The Tech Titans competition was an amazing opportunity for students to not only take part in, but to also get firsthand what users face within the industry itself, which was one of the main aims of the competition.

” I could not be prouder of our students who took part. They all commented on how much they enjoyed the day and how they were able to put their taught knowledge and skills into practice with the range of different tasks they faced.

“Competitions like this allow students to not only apply their knowledge and skill, but their understanding of the topic itself, which is a useful skill to have for their future careers.”
