Why choose this course?
An Education and Early years T Level gives you the opportunity to learn in the classroom and put your skills into practice in a real nursery or school. You will gain over 750 hours practical experience with the option to specialise in one age group in your second year and will leave college with a wide knowledge of everything you need to know to support children to learn and play.
Further information
If you are passionate about working with children, the T level is for you. A T level is best suited to students who enjoy a combination of class-based learning and practical placement experience.
- Child development – how children develop in all areas such as physical, social/emotional and communication and language
- Safeguarding and legislation – how to prioritise children’s safety and welfare above all
- How children learn and how best to support them
- The planning and assessment cycles – why and how to plan meaningful learning activities and reflection afterwards
- Supporting the education of children with Special educational needs and those for whom English is an additional language
Students with a T level can move straight into working with children as an early years educator or progress onto higher education. Past students have studied teaching, play therapy, social work and more. We have a 100% success rate – the vast majority of which achieve merits and distinctions – and paid positions are often secured before completion of the course.
Assessment occurs every day through informal methods such as discussions and tasks. Formally, students complete written exams at the end of year one and year two. Observations of students working with children in placement and professional discussions are also a form of assessment in your second year. Additionally, a competency portfolio is completed throughout the course.
Students must provide their own stationery, including notebooks and a folder. They will also require suitable clothing for working with children in placement, including a branded t-shirt (to purchase once enrolled) and sensible trousers and shoes.
