COURSE OVERVIEW
The Digital T-Level course is for students who wish to progress into skilled IT employment or higher-level technical training or study.
The main area of study covers:
- Digital Software Development
- Employer Set Project
- Occupational Specialism Project
- Weekly industry placement within the industry
This T-Level has been developed in collaboration with employers so the content meets the needs of industry, preparing students for the workplace.
There will be a mixture of classroom-based teaching and learning and ‘on-the-job’ learning as the course involves at least 315 hours (approximately 45 days) of Industrial Placement.
This new qualification provides the essential knowledge, understanding and skills relevant to any digital occupation. You’ll learn about the value of digital technology and gain an understanding of customer and commercial needs, alongside the ethical and moral issues raised by the increasing reliance on technology and its impact on culture, autonomous operations and addiction. Use of physical, virtual and Cloud digital environments, emerging technology trends and the application of tools and testing to influence innovation, algorithms and usability are a key part of the course.

GCSEs: T Levels are a combination of both A-Levels and Apprenticeships, and are an option to consider once you have completed your GCSEs. To be accepted onto a T Level, you should have five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including English Language and Maths.
NOTE: Completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service Application (DBS) may be required as you may undertake placements in digital setting that engage with vulnerable people.
Age: You will need to be aged between 16 -; 18 at the start of the qualification.
If you don’t meet our entry requirements, we recommend our in-house one year Level 2 Gateway to Digital Technologies course. This will help prepare you for the T Level in the subsequent year.

The sky is the limit! When you complete your T Level, you’;ll have lots of opportunities including:
- Employment in a skilled occupation
- Higher or degree level apprenticeships
- Higher level study, including university
Depending on future trends in technology, and possibly further courses, possible future careers could include Software development, Cyber forensics, Application Support Analyst and a Junior Programmer
T-Levels are made up of three elements:
Core Component
This will be split into two parts:
Technical knowledge and skills relevant to the T Levels industry. You’;ll need to demonstrate that you:
- Understand how your industry works
- Develop key Knowledge, Skills and Understanding of Software Development
- Know the working practices in the industry.
An employer-set project which will require you to apply your knowledge and skills to a set challenge.
Occupational Specialism
As part of your course, you’;ll learn specialist skills for your industry in a classroom-based environments, such as workshops. The Occupational Specialism Project allows you to demonstrate your Knowledge and Skills on a given scenario from a particular Industry.
Industry Placements
Industry placements are an essential part of the T Level qualification, and you’;ll complete 45 days in a placement. This means you’;ll develop the workplace skills that employers are looking for, gain a clearer idea about the job and even the possibility of opportunities to secure future employment!
Throughout the duration of the course, there will be opportunities for trips which will link into the programme of study. During your interview and induction week, your course team will make you aware of any trips that have been organised throughout the academic year.
There is no need to purchase extra equipment for this T-Level. Although your classes will take place on our separate Lab Network, we still advise that you have access to a Desktop PC or Laptop that allows you to run different IDE’s for programming (e.g. Visual Studio Code, IDLE for Python and Visual Studio for you second year of study).
Before starting this particular T-Level, we do encourage that you do the following:
- Industry Placements: it is encourage that students start to look for Employers that would be willing to take students on for Industry Placement. If you do find an employer that would be interested in taking you on for your placement, provide the course team with the email address and contact name of the employer and we’ll do the behind scenes elements for you.
- Programming Language: the language used for the first year of study is Python. We encourage all students to learn the basics of Python before starting the course in September so you can hit the ground running straight away!
