COURSE OVERVIEW
The foundation diploma in Esports is a subject specific course that is tailored for those who have an ambition and drive to study Esports across a board spectrum of areas such as sports, marketing, IT and the creatives. This course covers a wide variety of topics which include:
- Introduction to Esports
- Enterprise and Entrepreneurship in Esports
- Esports Skills, Strategies and Analysis
- Health, Wellbeing and Fitness for Esports Players
- Games Design
- Video Production
- Ethical and Current Issues in Esports
This could also potentially lead onto the second year of the course, which has been planned to consist of numerous modules including Esports Coaching, Shoutcasting, Live-streamed broadcasting and Psychology of Esports.
In addition to computational skills, English and Maths skills will be embedded throughout the course and you are required complete Work Experience during your time on the course.
FURTHER INFORMATION
You will need to have achieved a minimum of a grade 4 or above in five GCSEs, including English Language, and Maths. Entry is also subject to a successful interview and consideration of prior learning, achievement and attendance.
The majority of learners upon completing the Foundation Diploma would normally progress onto the Extended Diploma pending a progression interview, and will then proceed with their studies for one more year.
For those that wish to leave after the first year of the programme, this Esports qualification is based on progression to employment across a range of roles within Esports. This can include:
- Esports player
- Team Coach
- Shoutcaster and Presenter
- Social Media Influencer
- Video Production Editor
- Data Analyst
For those who are looking to proceed onto University, this qualification also attracts UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers as entry requirements. Upon completing the study programme you may choose to progress to higher education programs such as a BA (Hons) in Events Management, BA (Hons) in Media, BA (Hons) in Esports, as well as other degrees awarded within Computing and related disciplines. Please always refer to the University websites for details regarding entry requirements and UCAS expectations.
All the modules are assessed separately by a variety of means ranging from video and audio submissions to presentations and practical work. They will be assessed as either a Pass, Merit or Distinction. Assessment is flexible for everyone!
All equipment will be supplied, although access to a modern PC with the capability of running the suggested software would be strongly advised.
All learners below the age of 19 on the 1st of September will be able to undertake this course with no additional charge, however those that are 19 or older will have to secure funding to support them. Please see our financial support team with any queries or questions in regards to this.
Work experience is a key and fundamental core to this course, and as such every learner is expected to undertake a minimum of 35 hours work outside of the college.
This would ideally be within the computing industry, however work experience of a transferable skill set would also be acceptable following a discussion at interview.
It is therefore advisable to attempt to secure your work placement for the academic year following acceptance onto the course.
