COURSE OVERVIEW
As a Lean Manufacturing Operative you will be expected to carry out your work safely and meet the exacting quality standards demanded in a fast paced and efficient processing environment to develop into a multi-skilled operator through process ownership. Multi models manufacturing results in the manufacturing of different models of vehicle with different specification variants within a high volume environment.
You will be required to carry out manufacturing activities on multiple products with different specifications consecutively e.g. automotive manufacturing .You will also be required to prepare, control, contribute to and complete manufacturing operations and follow manufacturing processes and standard operating procedures (SOPs) whilst adhering to specific safe working policies & procedures.
A Lean Manufacturing Operative will be responsible for maintaining Health and Safety requirements at all times e.g. wearing correct Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) correct use of equipment and tooling, safe stopping and resetting of machinery and maintaining an organised work area. You will be responsible for carrying out quality checks throughout the manufacturing operation to ensure quality is built in and that any defects or concerns are highlighted and dealt with in line with relevant quality standards.

As an apprentice you must be employed in a relevant industry.
You will be interviewed by the college team to establish your suitability and to discuss the apprenticeship. As part of that interview, an aptitude test will be carried out along with English and maths assessments.
Once you complete your apprenticeship you could progress into one of the following roles:
- Team Member Production
- Manufacturing Production Operative
- Manufacturing Assembly Operative
- Manufacturing Inspection/Quality Assurance Operative
- Manufacturing Logistics Operative
- Manufacturing Material Handling Operative
- Manufacturing Process/Finishing Operative
You will build a portfolio of evidence for the type of work you carry out in the workplace and will also be assessed on your knowledge, skills and behaviours that you will develop throughout your apprenticeship. Additionally, you will build a log of off the job training that you must complete as part of your apprenticeship. You will complete a Level 2 Diploma in Manufacturing in both knowledge and skills during your apprenticeship.
At the end of your apprenticeship you will be assessed through an end point assessment (EPA) once you, your employer and we are satisfied you are ready. This consists of; online knowledge tests, a practical skills test and a professional discussion with the assessor. This assessment is carried out by the endpoint assessment organisation which is independent from the college.
If you don’t already have the correct level of English and maths when you start, you will be required to achieve these at Level 2.There will be plenty of opportunities to practice these skills while you are in your apprenticeship, both at college and while at work.
There is no cost to an apprentice.
If you are an employer employing an apprentice over the age 21 (without an EHCP) then you are likely to pay 5% towards the training cost.
If you are an employer with an Apprenticeship levy (i.e. your payroll exceeds £3 Million) then you will pay in full from your levy account
You will need to come prepared for both classroom and practical settings at college so will need to bring a pen and paper and provide your own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as overalls and boots for work in the workshops. All other PPE will be provided by us for use at the college.
