COURSE OVERVIEW
Do you have a keen interest in Motorsport, good practical skills and want to work at the forefront of engineering technology? Then this course is for you. As a Motorsport Technician you could be working in the maintenance & repair, building and testing of motorsport vehicles in a range of racing divisions. Whether you want to be working on single seaters, saloon cars, rally cars, drag racing or bike racing, this cutting edge programme is exciting and rewarding with a strong vocational focus. This level 3 course moves onto the diagnose and rectify of motorsport vehicle system faults. It also has the expectations to teach you how to analyse data to help you make set up changes to improve performance. Outside the curriculum you also have the opportunities to get involved with a small Motorsport team gaining real life experience at the track. Also many of our links can also provide other work experience opportunities. So this course can fulfill the experience that you can not simulate in the classroom but if desired the building blocks needed to progress onto higher education and that dream Motorsport Engineers job.
FURTHER INFORMATION
This is a progressive course where you will require the following:
- Successful completion of the IMI Level 2 Diploma in Motorsport or equivalent Level 2 Vocational Technical qualification. Plus 4 GCSEs at grade 4 and above (including Mathematics, English Language and Science).
- Mature learners can be assessed based upon any previous experience/employment in a technical background.
- Successful interview with the Study Programme Leader and aptitude test is mandatory for all.
You could continue on to the following; (but not limited to)
Higher education such as a foundation degree in Motorsport engineering; L3/HNC Engineering; an apprenticeship; employment in the automotive sector or for a Motorsport team.
This programme is internally assessed through a series of practical assessments, written assignments & on-line exams in accordance to awarding body standards.
There is a additional course supplement with this course of £165 which goes towards safety equipment, tools and training resources. There maybe some additional costs that are required when attending certain trips/events.

- Diagnose & Rectification of Chassis Systems
- Diagnose & Rectification of Transmission Systems
- Diagnose & Rectification of Electrical/Electronic Systems
- Setting-up of Race Vehicles
- Stripping, Preparations & Rebuilding Engines for Racing
Additional applied units in maths, science, ICT and electronics are also part of the extended diploma.
