COURSE OVERVIEW

Gateway 1 (Personal Progress)

Personal progress will provide a personalised learning programme that will enable the learner to progress from their individual starting point to chosen destination. This course focuses on communication, independence and personal development that will empower our learners to develop the confidence to be able to function as independently as possible.

As part of the course the learner will take part in a variety of chosen topics to support their progression. These include:

· Healthy Living and Healthy Lifestyles

· Kitchen Skills and Healthy Snacks

· Using own Money and Shopping

· Independence Skills and Keeping Safe

· Accessing the Community

· Social Awareness and Social Skills

· ICT, Maths and English

· Gardening and Practical Skills

· Enterprise and Work Projects

Transition and Life Planning

The learner will develop these skills through practical projects and activities that include creative arts, music, community engagement and physical movement. They will be fully included in the college community and there will also be a focus on the facilities available within the wider community where they will be encouraged to interact socially and take part in activities. Progress will be reviewed throughout the year and measured through individual target setting. The learner’;s development will be discussed at regular Progress and Transition Reviews.

FURTHER INFORMATION

An interest in becoming more independent and developing skills for life. Suitability for the programme will be assessed at interview and during the first six weeks of the learning programme.
