COURSE OVERVIEW
This is a highly rewarding creative subject to study, designed for you if you are interested in a career within the fashion and textile industries. The course introduces you to the processes, concepts and ideas associated with fashion and textiles. You will gain skills in a wide range of subjects including design, pattern cutting and making, printed textiles, fabric manipulation, surface pattern design, fashion marketing and CAD. Upon successful completion of Year 1, you can gain the 540 diploma (equivalent to 1.5 A-levels) and continue onto the Extended Diploma in Year 2 to achieve the final qualification (equivalent to 3 A-levels).
FURTHER INFORMATION
You will need 5 GCSEs at grades 4 and above including English, maths and an art related subject. You will be required to attend an interview and bring along evidence of your creative and written work. Details of any specific requirements will be sent to you after you have submitted your application.
This course will give you the opportunity to apply to university degree courses. Students leaving us have gained places at prestigious universities in the UK including The London College of Fashion. Kingston, Wimbledon, Bath Spa, Winchester and Nottingham Trent.
You will be assessed through a diverse range of methods from observation, presentations and written assignments, to sketchbook submission and garment production. Each project will be graded and feedback given in order to support your development.
COSTS/EQUIPMENT Course Costs You will be required to supply some materials, tools and equipment for the course, alongside basic stationary items. We will issue a kit list before the start, which comprises both art and fashion specialist items. We have a supplier who you can directly purchase these bespoke items from. You will be able to use onsite resources within the fashion studio, however it is recommended that you have access to a sewing machine outside of College, to undertake and continue project coursework. Course Fees If you are a home student and are under 19 at the beginning of your course, you do not have to pay tuition or exam fees for the majority of courses. If you are 19 or over when you start your course, you will have to contribute to your course fees in line with government guidelines.
