COURSE OVERVIEW
The ESOL Level 2 Writing course is designed for learners who wish to develop advanced writing skills for employment, further education and everyday life in the UK. It is suitable for students who can already write confidently in English and want to improve their ability to produce accurate, well-structured and effective written communication.
Throughout the course, learners practise writing for a range of purposes and audiences. Students develop their ability to organise ideas, present information clearly and use appropriate language and tone in different contexts. They will work with a variety of text types, including emails, letters, articles, reports and formal communications.
The course focuses on helping learners to:
- Write clearly and effectively for different purposes and audiences.
- Organise ideas logically using paragraphs and appropriate text structures.
- Use a wide range of vocabulary and grammatical structures accurately.
- Adapt language and style to suit formal and informal contexts.
- Develop proofreading and editing skills.
- Use punctuation, spelling and grammar with increasing accuracy.
- Build writing skills for work, study and everyday life.
Lessons are practical, engaging and designed to help learners apply their writing skills in realistic situations. Students will also prepare for the Level 2 Writing assessment and develop the skills needed for further study, vocational training and employment opportunities.
By the end of the course, learners will be able to produce well-structured, accurate and effective pieces of writing for a variety of purposes and audiences.
FURTHER INFORMATION
Apply here if you are 19 or over. There is another course designed for 16-;18-year-olds. If you are interested in applying for an Adult Part-time ESOL course, you will then be contacted with a date and time to come in for an assessment session.
The assessment will take approximately 2 hours -; we will test your grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing skills. This is to help us place you on the correct level for the start of your course. Once the initial assessment has taken place, you will be offered an interview.
You may be required to change levels if we find after initial assessments, a different level of English is more suited to your needs.
After successful completion of the course, we will assess if you are ready to the next award of ESOL. You may be asked to complete a different level for the award in Reading or Speaking and Listening, depending on the level you come at from your Initial Assessment.
ESOL courses also prepare you to apply for other vocational courses. However, each vocational course will require different levels of English and maths, therefore appointments with the Progression Plus team throughout the year would be advisable to help ensure you are supported throughout your journey with us.
You will complete a Pearson ESOL Skills for Life Level 2 Writing assessment at the end of the course. The assessment is designed to measure your ability to write effectively, accurately and appropriately for different purposes and audiences.
Throughout the course, your teacher will provide regular feedback and opportunities to practise the skills required for the assessment. This will help you develop confidence and prepare for the final exam.
The assessment may include tasks such as:
- Writing for different purposes and audiences.
- Organising information clearly and logically.
- Producing well-structured texts using appropriate layouts and formats.
- Using a range of vocabulary and grammatical structures accurately.
- Demonstrating effective spelling, punctuation and grammar.
- Reviewing and editing your work to improve clarity and accuracy.
Your teacher will support you throughout the course and ensure you are fully prepared for the assessment.
There are no compulsory additional costs for this course. However, a textbook may be recommended to support learning. If so, this will be discussed during induction, including details of any associated costs.
Our ESOL courses are part-time will be 8 hours per week. There will be two groups and each of the groups will be in college either three morning sessions or three afternoon sessions from Monday to Friday. To enrol on this course you must ensure you are available to attend both sessions a week and for the full lesson to help ensure you develop your skills and successfully achieve the English qualification.
Inductions will be during the first week of September which you must be available for, prior to the lessons starting.
