Why choose this course?
This course is suitable for anyone who has completed the Dressmaking for Beginners for all abilities course, as well as those with good basic sewing skills who would like to develop their existing knowledge and techniques.
It is designed to help learners build confidence in dressmaking while expanding their skills through more advanced sewing methods and garment construction techniques. Throughout the course, you will learn new approaches to sewing, improve the quality of your finished garments, and gain experience.

Anyone over the age of 19+ who already has good sewing skills.
- Use a sewing machine confidently, applying a range of machine functions and techniques to achieve professional results.
- Select suitable fabrics, interfacings, and notions for a variety of garment projects.
- Take accurate body measurements and make basic pattern adjustments to improve garment fit.
- Interpret pattern terminology, markings, and instruction sheets independently.
- Organise, store, and maintain patterns and project documentation effectively.
- Alter and adapt commercial patterns to create personalised garment designs.
- Construct garments with increased accuracy using a range of sewing and assembly techniques.
- Apply professional finishing methods, including seams, hems, buttonholes, zips, facings, and fastenings.
- Identify and resolve common fitting and construction problems during the garment-making process.
Learners may wish to progress further onto other creative courses within the College.

You don’t need to bring in anything for the first lesson.
You will need to purchase your fabric for your own sewing project.
