This course is designed for creative learners who want to develop their skills in drawing, painting, and lino cutting. It is ideal for anyone with a basic art background who wishes to build confidence, expand their artistic abilities, and explore a range of creative techniques.
During the course, you will learn how to design, carve, and hand-print lino cuts onto paper and collaged backgrounds. You will have the opportunity to create:
- A repeat pattern paper design
- A collaged print
- A print suitable for framing
The course aims to enhance both the enjoyment and confidence of drawing, painting, and lino printing in a relaxed and supportive environment. You will work from a variety of sources, including still life arrangements, natural forms, and photographs.
Covering a broad range of essential artistic processes and techniques, the course will help you develop practical skills in:
- Drawing and painting techniques
- Mixed media applications
- Line and wash methods
- Composition and visual arrangement
- Safe use of materials and printing equipment
- Lino cutting and printing processes
- Texture and mark-making techniques
- Collage techniques
Through guided practice and experimentation, you will explore a variety of creative approaches before producing your own final black-and-white lino print design. This course provides an excellent opportunity to develop technical skills, creativity, and personal artistic expression.

Suitable for those who have attended the Learning to Draw and Paint Intermediate course or those who have some previous experience. Student must be aged 19+
- Build confidence in drawing, painting and lino printing in a relaxed environment.
- Work from still life, natural forms and photographic references.
- Develop observational drawing and recording skills.
- Learn key art elements including line, tone, texture and composition.
- Explore colour theory and colour mixing techniques.
- Experiment with a variety of painting methods and materials.
- Develop creative mark-making and expressive drawing techniques.
- Learn safe lino printing processes, tools and materials.
- Design, carve, ink and produce lino prints, including multi-colour prints.
- Create a portfolio of finished artwork while developing personal style and creativity.
Successful learners will receive a college certificate of completion. Your tutor will advise you on further study options.

- Good quality acrylic paint and water colours
