COURSE OVERVIEW
The C&G 7255-62 Level 2 Technical Diploma in Wood Occupations is designed to develop the core technical skills and knowledge needed for a career in carpentry or joinery. It focuses on practical training in either site carpentry or bench joinery, alongside essential theoretical understanding. Learners gain hands-on experience with industry-standard tools, materials, and construction methods, while also studying key aspects such as technical drawing, accurate measuring, cutting techniques, and interpreting specifications. The qualification supports progression into employment or further study, ensuring learners are well-prepared for the technical demands of modern construction environments.

Entry requirements Maths and English at a grade 4 and above.
This course is ideal for school leavers aged 16-;18 who are interested in a career in carpentry or joinery and want to develop technical skills in a hands-on learning environment. Applicants should have a keen interest in construction, a positive attitude to practical work, and a willingness to learn. Some prior experience or knowledge of construction can be helpful but is not essential. Entry is subject to an interview and initial assessment to ensure the course is right for you.
Upon successful completion of the C&G 7255-62 Level 2 Technical Diploma in Wood Occupations, learners will be well-equipped to progress into employment as a site carpenter or bench joiner, or move on to a Level 2 apprenticeship in wood occupations. Alternatively, learners can advance to further study, such as a Level 3 qualification in construction or carpentry, to continue developing their technical and professional skills. The course provides a strong foundation for a career in the construction industry
Assessment for the C&G 7255-62 Level 2 Technical Diploma in Wood Occupations is designed to reflect real-world industry standards. Learners are assessed through a combination of practical assignments, written knowledge tests, and a synoptic assessment. The practical tasks test technical accuracy, safe working practices, and the ability to follow technical drawings and specifications. Written assessments evaluate understanding of construction principles, materials, and health and safety regulations. The synoptic assessment brings together skills and knowledge from across the course in a final project, demonstrating overall technical competence and readiness for the workplace.
This course is fully funded for learners aged under 19 (Further Education funding). However, there is a one-off payment of £60 due before enrolment to cover the cost of consumable materials used during practical sessions. In addition, all learners will be required to purchase their own safety boots and appropriate protective clothing, which are essential for participation in workshop activities.
