COURSE OVERVIEW
This apprenticeship is aimed at individuals who are wishing to move into the role of an engineering and manufacturing support technician within the engineering industry.
They play a vital role in sectors such as aerospace, automotive, maritime, defence, and nuclear. They provide technical assistance to engineers, supporting functions like CAD design, CNC programming, robotics, quality control, and process engineering. Their work often involves complex problem-solving, continuous improvement, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders. They contribute to planning, resource allocation, and progress reporting, using technical software to design, test, and inspect equipment or services. They also generate technical reports and conduct audits.
These technicians support various business functions including production planning, product development, technical sales, and innovation. They may work indoors or outdoors, depending on the nature of inspections or testing. Daily interactions include engineers, team leaders, customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies. They are expected to work independently or as part of a team, ensuring high standards of quality, accuracy, and efficiency.
Adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations is essential, including the proper use of protective equipment. Ultimately, engineering and manufacturing support technicians are responsible for delivering safe, timely, and effective technical support that enhances operational performance and innovation within engineering and manufacturing environments

An apprentice will need to be employed in a workplace that can provide suitable evidence and off the job training for this apprenticeship standard.

Once you have completed this apprenticeship you could secure a permanent role in your chosen discipline.
This apprenticeship also aligns with Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) for Engineering Technician and Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) for Engineering Technician.

There is a mandatory qualification You will complete a Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Manufacturing Support Technologies before moving to your End Point Assessment (EPA)
Your EPA is organised through an end point assessment organisation, independent from the college and it consists of a work based report with presentation to an end point assessor and they will ask you questions about this presentation.
There will also be a professional discussion with the assessor about a portfolio of evidence that will be built while they are with us.
There is no cost to an apprentice.
If you are an employer employing an apprentice over the age 21 (without an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP)) then you are likely to pay 5% towards the training cost.
If you are an employer with an Apprenticeship levy (i.e. your payroll exceeds £3 Million) then you will pay in full from your levy account.

You will need to provide basic personal protective equipment (PPE) and note taking equipment. Specialist PPE needed for work in our workshops will be provided by us.
