COURSE OVERVIEW
This course offers an exciting opportunity for you to gain a practical introduction to acting and the world of theatre. The course will give you acting experience as well as a range of work designed to help you understand how theatre works and develop essential background knowledge. Team work is a vital part of acting and there is an emphasis on developing your ability to work as part of a team throughout the course. Work Experience is a key aspect of your learning journey and you will be supported to engage with the professional world to enhance your knowledge and understanding of the industry.
FURTHER INFORMATION
You will need 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above. Previous experience or simply a desire to experience theatre acting is essential whatever qualifications you might possess. You will need to successfully complete an audition and interview.
The course is excellent preparation to the Acting level 3 Diploma course as well as providing you with a good grounding for accessing the Level 3 Musical Theatre course and the Level 3 Technical Theatre course. You may have the opportunity to move into limited roles within the profession such as backstage work and Access to Community Arts work.
You will be assessed via the following methods:
- Units 1-8 are assessed internally and are fully embedded within the projects through the academic year
- Unit 9 is your Final Major Project and is externally assessed
You must complete Units 1-8 successfully before participating in Unit 9 work. Unit 9 is a fully supported, full-scale production in our theatre.
Course Costs
Equipment:
You are advised to wear clothing that is appropriate for rehearsing in our studios. Comfortable clothing that allows for a range of movement and practical shoes are a must.
Expenses:
You may be asked to pay for a personal copy of your script for the Final Major Project and for any Theatre trips we ask you to attend. Wherever possible we strive to keep these costs as low as we can.
Course Fees
If you are a home student and are under 19 at the beginning of your course, you do not have to pay tuition or exam fees for the majority of courses. If you are 19 or over when you start your course, you will have to contribute to your course fees in line with government guidelines.
