Become an apprentice

Start an Apprenticeship

Apprenticeships are a great way to learn and earn at the same time.

An apprenticeship is a combination of qualifications which can include:

  • The Apprenticeship standard, in the discipline of choice and at the relevant level of study
  • A technical or vendor qualification (if applicable), depending on your subject of study and level
  • Skills, knowledge and behaviors that will help you whilst at work as an employed staff member
  • Maths and English as functional skills, if not already achieved.

The apprenticeship will take between 1-4 years to complete, depending on the subject you are studying.

Do I need to be working?

An apprenticeship requires you to have full time (30 hours plus a week) employment in the relevant industry, whilst attending college one day per week. You can be employed part time for a minimum of 16 hours per week. However, this will extend the duration you have on the programme.

Whereas a full-time college course requires no employment in the industry and is full time attendance at College (3-4 days per week - some of our full-time courses include work experience in the industry).

Your employer will need to support your 20% off the job training requirement and help you track achievement of this using the college software once you are enrolled. The 20% off the job training may include college attendance, evidencing workplace activity, attending external events and general tasks which are substantive new skills. Guidance on what does and doesn’t constitute towards off the job training will be given to you and your employer at the start of the programme.

If you do not have an employer in place, then the apprenticeships team at Chichester College can help you to find a suitable role. You can contact the team at apprenticeships@chichester.ac.uk or on 01243 812948.
