Chichester College students contribute artwork to local foodbank
Art & Design students at Chichester College have come together to support their local foodbank through their artistic talents.
Earlier this year, the students were challenged to create inspiring designs – aimed at raising awareness and encouraging donations for the Chichester District Foodbank, from food to household items, as well as finding out about the organisation’s work with the community.
The students embraced the task and created a variety of designs which were on display at the opening of the foodbank’s new site in Quarry Lane last week (Friday 25 April).
One of the students – Chloe Miles – was selected for a particularly special honour, as their design was chosen to feature prominently in the foodbanks future marketing materials.
Chloe, who is studying level two art & design, said: “It was surprising to be chosen, but it feels good, and it has boosted my confidence in my art.
“I enjoyed working on a real project. It was interesting to find out more.
“My inspiration was that when you go to the foodbank you may be giving food over, so I thought about somebody passing it to someone else. I also wanted to show the ‘fix it for free’ element, where clients may need things fixing. I wanted to try to show everything they do.”
Keely Storey, Campaigns Coordinator for the Chichester District Foodbank, added: “I have been so impressed with not only the quality but the range of skills that the level two art and design students possess.
“Trying to select an image to use in our future marketing materials really was a challenge, as the standard was so high. We were impressed with the students’ commitment and interpretation of the brief and sincerely hope to work collaboratively with Chichester College in future upcoming campaigns.”
The collaboration between Chichester College and Chichester District Foodbank demonstrates the college’s commitment to working with organisations across the community, giving students valuable experience by working on real-life projects while also supporting vital services for local residents.
Helen Loftus, Principal of Chichester College, said: “We are incredibly proud of our students for their dedication and creativity. Their artwork will play a crucial role in supporting the foodbank’s mission to help those in need.
“We are grateful to the team at Chichester District Foodbank for the opportunity, which not only fosters artistic expression but also helps to instil a sense of community responsibility in the students.”
