Student enterprise project supports wildlife hospital

Students at Chichester College have undertaken a social enterprise project to support Brent Lodge Wildlife Hospital.

The group of students have spent the past term working on three mini projects which each one having a special purpose to support people, animals and the environment. 

At the beginning of the term, the students took part in the BRIT Challenge Walk to support young people’s mental health for their first mini project. 

The second project involved the students’ joining forces as a team to complete a full campus litter pick for the environmental work.  

Both projects led to the students’ most recent and final venture which proved to be quite the mission as they worked with the local community, fellow students and staff to gather as many donations as they could for Brent Lodge Wildlife Hospital.  

The students, all part of the college’s Foundation Towards Independence Programme, created posters listing items on the wildlife hospital’s wish list which included a variety of pet food, blankets, towels, newspapers and much more.  

Earlier this month, 13 students and staff loaded up the college’s minibus full of the donations and delivered them to the hospital based down in Sidlesham. 

Vicky Tucker, Lecturer in Foundation Programmes, said: “We are so incredibly proud of our students for their showing such a can-do attitude throughout their enterprise projects. 

“These mini projects not only showed a great skill set of creativity, imagination and dedication but a really important support to local charities who need that extra helping hand.” 

The Foundation Towards Independence Programme enables students to become as actively independent and productive as possible in their community as well as providing students with key lessons in preparation for adult life.
