Chichester College business lecturer, Pat Macdonald, recently discovered that a former student of his put him forward for a special nomination through the University of Bath Teacher Champion Awards 2022.

Now studying at the university himself, Woody Burgess was thrilled to have the opportunity to praise Pat and all the support he offered throughout his studies.

Woody said: “Since day one, he pushed me to achieving the highest grade I could, helping me to land my place at the university.

“Pat truly deserves this award as he went above and beyond for all students, and ultimately made my college experience better than I could have hoped for.”

Pat was shortlisted for the ‘Nothing’s Impossible Award’, which is a special award recognising lecturers who inspire students to believe in themselves and aim high.

Pat expressed: “I feel privileged to be nominated for this award.

“I have always felt supported and valued in my role and have tried to emulate that with my students in my classes.

“Working at this outstanding college fills me with pride which I try to demonstrate daily to all those I encounter.”

Each year The University of Bath Teacher Champion Awards recognise and celebrate the important role school and college teachers play in guiding students on their path to university.

This year in particular the awards received more nominations than ever before and this has not gone unnoticed with other students and fellow colleagues of Pat’s, who have also proudly celebrated his nomination.

Helen Loftus, Interim Principal at Chichester College, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and we’re all very proud of Pat.

“To have been nominated by one of his former students is testament to Pat’s teaching and the difference he makes to his students. Well done Pat.”
