Hat-trick of awards for Chichester College students

16 July 2021

Computing students at Chichester College walked away with a trio of awards, following a recent gaming competition.

They took part in GameJam, a week-long event organised by the University of Portsmouth.

The four-person team – called the ‘Dairy Delinquents’ and comprised of Lewis Knight, Aleandro Abreu, Michael Elderton and Brad Waller – were tasked with designing, creating and presenting a new game in just five days.

The only requirement they had to meet, was to feature one of the three themes selected during the opening ceremony – former cricketer Roger Harper, live music venue The Cluny and Saint-Marcellin (a French cheese).

By Friday the students were ready to present their game, ‘Feisty Fromages’ to a panel of judges featuring lectures of the University of Portsmouth and employers from the gaming industry.

They were impressed with the team’s cheesy-themed game, honouring it with three of the nine awards that were up for grabs:

  • Best Adaptation of the Themes
  • Best Designed Game
  • People’s Choice.

Nathan Smith, computing lecturer at Chichester College, said: “We are unbelievably proud of this team – they really rose to the challenge presented to them.

“They worked incredibly hard, embraced the themes with enthusiasm and developed a really creative game concept which impressed the judges – so much so that they’ve been invited to the university to show them how the game works.”
