COURSE OVERVIEW
This Technical Qualification is for T Level students who are undertaking the T Level in Accounting. It is intended for students who want to progress to a career in the accountancy sector.
The purpose of the T Level Technical Qualification in Accounting is to ensure students have the knowledge and skills needed to progress into highly skilled employment, an Apprenticeship or higher-level study, including university, within the specialist area of accountancy.
Year 1 – Core Content
Students will learn about the following topics:
- The business environment
- Careers within the finance and accounting professions
- Regulation
- Professionalism and ethics/equality, diversity and inclusion
- Security and risk
- Professional services
- Fundamentals of law
- Fundamentals of financial accounting 1
- Technology
- Data driven innovation/analytics and design thinking
- Research skills
- Project/change management and administration
- Fundamentals of financial accounting 2
Year 2 – Occupational Specialism – Assistant Accountant
- Produce and analyse a trial balance
- Prepare primary financial statements
- Analyse business performance and present results
- Provide support to tax and audit functions
- Prepare computations for Payroll
FURTHER INFORMATION
This course is suitable for an independent thinker who is highly driven and committed to a career in Accounting.
Students will be confident to independently research subjects.
Presentations are part of the year 1 assessments so students will be open to building their skills in this area.
Entrance requirements are 5 GCSE’s, grade 4 and above, to include Maths and English Language.
Students must have a good record of attendance from their current school as attendance to all classes is key!
At the end of the Technical Qualification, students are expected to demonstrate threshold competence, which means that they have gained the core knowledge and skills related to accountancy and are well placed to develop full occupational competence with additional development and support once in employment in the accountancy sector.
Year 1
During April, May and June of Year 1, students will sit a series of assessments.
Employer-Set Project
The Core Skills assessed through the Employer Set Project are:
- Research and analyse using primary and secondary sources
- Work independently and collaboratively with others as part of a team
- Problem solve, determining and utilising different investigation techniques
- Communicate effectively, articulating the problem and potential solutions
The employer set project is a series of tasks that will be sat in exams conditions, using computers. The tasks will be spread over a period of 3 weeks. The end result of these tasks will be an electronic portfolio of evidence which will then be sent to the awarding body.
Core Exams
In June students will sit 2 x 2.5 hour core paper exams. These are NOT computer based and will be sat in the exam hall.
All parts of the year 1 assessments will be sat under highly invigilated conditions.
Year 1 results will be received on the same day as A Level results day and will be graded A*-E. These will be banked towards the students overall result (at the end of year 2).
***Please note: this is a 2 year course, if students leave after the year 1 exams they will not leave with any qualifications.*****
Year 2
At the end of year 2, students will sit a series of computer based tasks based on their occupational specialism of Assistant Accountant.
These will be spread across a period of 3 weeks and the end result will be another electronic portfolio of evidence.
All tasks will be sat under highly invigilated conditions. The results from these tasks will be added to the year 1 results.
Students will receive their results on A level results day and will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.
