COURSE OVERVIEW
Our sewing course covers the general principles of dressmaking and basic sewing skills using a commercial pattern. You will learn how to sew using professional techniques, and learn about different fabrics while focusing on sewing seams, hems and much more. You will also look at different aspects of garment construction. The course covers the following topics:
- Using a sewing machine safely and correctly
- How to choose suitable fabrics for your sewing project
- Pattern terminology and instructions
- Pattern cutting
- Assembling your chosen garment
- Zips, buttonholes and pockets
- Developing a basic knowledge of different fabrics and their qualities
- Understanding seams and hems for a professional finish.
Please note: There will be two groups running on Tuesday evenings from 24 September 2024. The times are listed below:

Suitable for beginners.
Learners may wish to progress further onto other creative courses within the College.
Continuous classroom assessment based on Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement (RARPA).
Course fee: £145
You will need to purchase your fabric for your own sewing project.
