COURSE OVERVIEW
The Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing Studies is an exciting and intensive course that will teach you the fundamental knowledge and skills involved in a range of plumbing activities.
You will learn about the key methods, materials, processes and principles used in plumbing. Common plumbing processes that are required include teaching you how to interpret diagrams, prepare tubes and fittings for joining, perform fixing of clips and operate power tools.
Hot and cold water are key topics that will teach you how to fit types of domestic water systems and components. You will learn about the water distribution, water supplies, the pipework used in domestic systems, how to test and decommission, maintain and install water systems and components.
The level two diploma explores common sanitation systems, including toilets, wash basins, sinks and cisterns. You will learn the requirements for installing sanitary appliances and be able to install them by the end of your course.
The central heating unit will introduce you to the domestic central heating systems installed in domestic dwellings. We also cover above ground drainage systems.
We provide an industry focused and practical environment for you to develop your skills and knowledge. We have lecturers and instructors who have experience of working in the industry. We have four plumbing workshops that are spacious and well equipped.
The structure of our programmes follows clear educational aims that are expected from the awarding bodies. These are all outlined in the programme specifications which include further details such as the learning outcomes.

FURTHER INFORMATION
The following sets out some of the most common entry requirements. However, each application is reviewed on its individual strengths and merits.
You may have previously completed the Level 1 Plumbing Diploma, though this is not a formal requirement.
GCSEs – You should have achieved GCSE (or equivalent) Maths or English with at least a grade 4 (or grade C) and at least a grade 3 in the other, to be able to join this Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing.
A positive attitude, enthusiasm towards learning, interest in plumbing and good attendance is also important.

Apprenticeship – If you are taken on as an apprentice with an employer who is gas safety registered, you could complete the Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician Apprenticeship – Level 3 Standard with us. The apprenticeship course covers everything from planning, designing, installation, testing and commissioning of all systems found within a domestic property.
T Level – These are new technical level 3 qualifications studied for two years. At Chichester College, we offer:
- T Level in On-Site Construction
- T Level in Building Services Engineering
- T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning
Employment – Completing the Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing Studies will help you with the search for entry level employment in the plumbing and heating trade.
In order to complete the qualification you will cover:
- Health and safety.
- Electrical principles.
- Scientific principles.
- Plumbing processes.
- Cold water systems.
- Hot water systems.
- Communication and working in the construction industry.
- Central heating systems
- Drainage systems.
Throughout the course you will have assessments to test your knowledge. You will be assessed by online multiple-choice tests set by City & Guilds. Practical assignments will test your knowledge and abilities throughout the year.
Course Costs
You will be supplied with safety glasses, gloves, a face mask and earplugs at the beginning of the course. This Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
There is a £50.00 to cover: Material costs, specialist software licences and other consumables. (Payable online before enrolment. Support with this may be available through applying for bursary on the CCG website.)
You will also need to supply your own safety boots and wear appropriate clothes for workshop sessions and site visits.
Course Fees
If you are a student and are under 19 at the beginning of your course, you do not have to pay tuition or exam fees for the majority of courses. If you are 19 or over when you start your course, you will have to contribute to your course fees in line with government guidelines.

The course is timetabled to require attendance over 3 days a week.
The course will include elements of ‘remote-learning’;. We use MS Teams and CCG Online Moodle for online learning.
Your learning consists of classroom-based teaching practical teaching in the workshop. Class based learning involves detailed handouts, PowerPoint presentations, interactive lecturing, one to one support, group work and debate and discussion. Practical training is completed in our workshops alongside technicians and instructors who can develop your abilities and skills.
All workshop lessons require the highest standard of behaviour and the use of personal protection equipment. Classes are also dedicated to teaching you about the important topic of health and safety.
