COURSE OVERVIEW
This Level 3 Diploma is to prepare learners to become Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to five years and gain knowledge of children aged five to seven years.
It includes both knowledge and skills that meet the Department for Education Early Years Educator (DfE EYE) criteria in full and map to the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) within the Early Years Educator apprenticeship standard ST0135.
This qualification requires learners to complete a mandatory work/industry placement experience throughout the duration of the qualification, before certification.
The minimum placement hours for this qualification are 300 hours, however it is recommended that learners undertake 350 hours where possible.
To be awarded this qualification, learners are required to successfully achieve 10 mandatory units/95 credits.
Topics include Holistic Child Development, Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, Safeguarding and Welfare Requirements, Promoting an Effective Early Years Curriculum, Assessment of Children’s Learning and Development and many more……..
Each unit, where applicable, consists of both knowledge-based learning outcomes and skills-based learning outcomes associated with work placement experience.
FURTHER INFORMATION
Learners must be at least 16 years old and have secured a workplace for the entirety of the course.
There are no specific prior skills or knowledge a learner must have for this qualification. However, learners may find it helpful if they have already achieved the NCFE CACHE Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner, or a previous level 2 qualification that is full and relevant or holds transferable skills.
Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to the following employment:
- Educator in day nurseries
- Educator in nursery schools
- Educator in reception classes in primary schools
- Pre-school worker

Once on programme, an allocated assessor will meet with you every 6-8 weeks, either via Microsoft Teams or face-to-face. The assessor will support you to collate evidence for your electronic portfolio using the Onefile platform throughout the course as well completing diploma level practical assessments of your knowledge and skills.
You will also be required to attend 10 monthly mandatory workshops, held as twilight sessions at college. Assignments will be provided for you to complete following each workshop.
