COURSE OVERVIEW
The Award level consists of 4 units and is designed to develop the knowledge of learners who would like to work in a school or college environment or who are not working directly with children or young people in an educational environment. The Certificate or Diploma is suitable for those already working or volunteering in a supporting role within the classroom. Taught subjects include: • Supporting Children & Young People with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities • Support Assessment for Learning • Speech, Language and Communication • Supporting Positive Behaviour • Safeguarding • Professional Practice.
To achieve the Diploma, learners will complete 16 units and will be collating evidence for their portfolio while consolidating and developing skills and knowledge in the classroom environment.
9 x twilight taught sessions are held monthly, which are mandatory, to support all learners with their underpinning knowledge as well as creating opportunities for peer learning and networking.
FURTHER INFORMATION
Level 3 Award – Learners do not need to be working or undertaking practical placements.
Level 3 Certificate or Diploma – A recommended 6 months practice in the workplace is required, either voluntary or employed, to ensure the level of competence can be evidenced in the portfolio.
Students can progress to the Foundation Degree in Learning Support or to an HLTA role.
Once on programme, an assessor will meet with the learner every 4-6 weeks to support them with collating a portfolio of evidence throughout the period of the course. For those studying at certificate or diploma level practical assessments will also be completed of the learner by the assessor.
The learner will also have to attend 9 monthly mandatory workshops held as twilight sessions at college.
