COURSE OVERVIEW
This is an exciting programme developed to introduce you to a range of animation and illustration techniques using both traditional and digital media. Through inventive and exciting assignments you will develop digital and traditional skills that are highly desirable and recognised in the industry. Create projects that are linked to employer’s needs and allow you to develop both art and non-art skills which are essential to working in an animation or design studio. For instance, learning skills in: teamwork, communication, presentation, planning and managing resources, as well as understanding your audience.
The course will also teach you how to manage the animation processes, such as: planning and setting-up a production pipeline so you can control the logistics of an animation. During each project we will also highlight key artists, designers and animators who have influenced illustration and animation.

Entry requirements for the course:
- 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English, Maths & an art subject (both English and Maths desirable but one retake can be taken during the year). Also commitment and passion for creativity essential for the course
- Or a Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design at Merit grade (English and maths desirable but one retake can be taken during the year).
- You will also need an art and design portfolio that highlights your creative skills and talents, normal that is 10 images that best reflects your creativity.
- We also welcome mature students with a suitable art and design portfolio who do not necessarily have the entry grades.
After successfully completing this course you can go on to HND in Animation at Chichester College or a degree at a University. For example, previous students have gone on to study-on courses and careers in: 2D & 3D animation, stop motion animation, computer games design, concept art, visual effects, illustration, film making, photography,
You will be continuously assessed through the compilation of a completed sketchbooks showing all set tasks, alongside experiments and final outcomes, which can include: character turnarounds, design boards, posters, models, digital illustrations, animatics and full animations. You will hand in your final submissions on design boards and also electronically. Your animations will also be screened and audience feedback analysed. You can be graded as a Referred, Pass, Merit or Distinction. There are five assessment key criteria:

- Communication

You should invest in the following to support your studies:
- Art supplies including inks, watercolour paints and brushes, watercolour pencils, double sided tape, Pritt Sticks, charcoal and fixative (for charcoal), felt pens or markers and fine liner pens (both permanent and non-permanent). In addition, a brush pen is really helpful for drawing.
- A computer or laptop to run software such as Photoshop, ideally with an i5 processor or better.
- Adobe software, such as: Photoshop, Illustrator, Animate and After Effects -; this can be bought at a reduced rate from Adobe: (www.adobe.com/uk/creativecloud/buy/students)
- Alternatively, you could try free software called Krita (www.krita.org/en), which is very similar to Photoshop.
- Online cloud storage is essential for backing your work up.
- Plenty of printer credits (to top-up weekly around ÂŁ6 a month).
- 12 coloured pencils that are erasable, made by Staedtler.
- Graphics drawing tablet that has Pen Pressure Sensitivity such as: HUION 1060PLUS or a 640.
- A tablet such as an iPad with Procreate will definitely help you on the course.
- 16GB memory card for a camera, a 16GB memory stick and a card reader.

Art Trips: It is anticipated that we will take-part in a number of trips during the course, normally one a term, which will cost around ÂŁ20 each time. Course Fees If you are a home student and are under 19 at the beginning of your course, you do not have to pay tuition or exam fees for the majority of courses. If you are 19 or over when you start your course, you will have to contribute to your course fees in line with government guidelines. You have an option to complete the one year Diploma or, subject to gaining a pass in year 1, you can progress on to year 2 and the extended diploma.
