COURSE OVERVIEW
This is an 8 week course scheduled for one evening a week and aimed towards those with some basic woodworking skills. You will be guided in the use of hand tools to create multiple small set projects that will cover many fundamental skills and techniques required in furniture making.
This training includes an introduction to basic hand tools use and maintenance. You will be guided through the creation of a variety of different woodworking joints, such as dovetails (a classic furniture making joint). Throughout the course we also cover the fundamentals of the assembly process and simple finishing techniques.
This course starts on Monday 13 January 2025 (18:15 – 20:45)
Please note this course does not run in the college half term or end of term breaks.
FURTHER INFORMATION
The course is suitable for those interested in starting a new hobby and to develop new skills. The course also acts as an introduction to some of the content featured in our full time courses.
Applicants must be aged 19 and over to join this course.
We offer a range of full time furniture courses at our Chichester and Brinsbury campuses to further develop your interest and skills. You can find more information about these on our website.
There is no formal assessment for the completion of this course. However, there is continuous workshop assessment based on Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement (RARPA).
Course fees: £195
Materials for the first few sessions of the course are provided by the College. Students will be expected to provide timber and other hardware items for any additional projects.
For the first session you will need:
- Safety boots/trainers, which must be steel toe-capped. These must be purchased in advance of starting the course
- A pair of safety glasses, or ‘over specs’
- A pair of ear defenders
PPE is available from Screwfix or similar trade merchants at a reasonable cost.
