COURSE OVERVIEW
This apprenticeship includes the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting as the mandatory on-programme learning, therefore you will gain two qualifications upon completion.
An Accounts or finance assistant is an integral part of the team responsible for maintaining an efficient and accurate finance function within a business. The Accounts or finance assistant is responsible for assisting the team of accountants with junior accounting duties. These can vary massively depending on the team structure and size of business. An Accounts or finance assistant’;s work could include basic bookkeeping activities, working with sales and purchase ledgers, running calculations to ensure that records and payments are correct, recording of cash and data entry. Accounts or finance assistant can work in almost any sector. Potential employers include corporate businesses, sole traders, partnerships, Public sector, not-for-profit organisations and educational institutions. Accounts or finance assistant may work in-house for an organisation or they might work for an accountancy firm, bookkeeping practice, Shared Service provider, self-employed or on behalf of several different clients.

The entry requirement is to hold maths and English GCSE at 4 or above.
This apprenticeship is for anyone working in an accounting company, whose job role meets the course specification.

Possible progression to Level 3 Assistant Accountant apprenticeship and beyond, and potential continuous employment in company.
You will be assessed by four AAT exams throughout the course, which you will need to pass, plus you will create a portfolio of evidence (recorded on Onefile) and complete an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of the course.
An assessor will support you throughout your apprenticeship and meet regularly for progress reviews with you and your line manager.
There is no cost to an apprentice.
However, to sit the exams, you will need to join the AAT for a membership fee of £186 and purchase textbooks for each unit.
If you are an employer employing an apprentice over the age 21 (without an EHCP) then you are likely to pay 5% towards the training cost.
If you are an employer with an Apprenticeship levy (i.e. your payroll exceeds £3 Million) then you will pay in full from your levy account.
