A former Chichester College student has won a special scholarship that will see all of her tuition fees paid for and a generous bursary given towards her maintenance costs.
Jade Wadey has been awarded the Ignite Scholarship at the University of Southampton.
Jade in her first year at the university, working towards her law degree having developed a passion for the subject while studying A-levels at Chichester College.
She is the second ever person to receive the scholarship, which is funded by University of Southampton alumni and is available to students who from underrepresented backgrounds
The three-year programme will cover Jade’s tuition fees and maintenance loan throughout the three years of her degree. It will also offer a blend of academic, career and personal opportunities to help ensure students reach their full potential.
Jade said: “The scholarship will help me achieve my goals as I now can focus more on my degree and feel safe knowing that I will have no debt after university, a concern which dwelled with me often as I was never financially well off in my youth.
“I also feel believed in, which is something that, with my confidence issue, I have struggled to feel at times.”
Jade studied law, history and sociology A-levels at Chichester College and attributes her time at the college to her success at university.
Speaking about her time at the college, she added: “The lecturers are very supportive of your dreams, guiding you towards the right path and going above and beyond to ensure that you receive feedback certain to help you improve your grade.
“They helped me to get to the place I am by believing in me, and realising that I am more than just a student, I am a person who can make change happen.”
