Football

As a student at Chichester College, you'll benefit from being able to join and train with a number of official sports clubs.

From running to rugby, we’ve got opportunities for everyone – whether you want to play competitively or just keep fit. Most of our teams compete regionally, and you’ll find information about how to join below.

Our Clubs

Britain’s most popular indoor racket sport, badminton, is a perfect introduction to racket sports for many.

The college badminton club meets twice a week, with drop-in sessions helping you to learn the sport, play games and meet new people. The session is fun and relaxed, with music and the opportunity to play badminton and work on your fitness in a safe environment.

There's also an opportunity to join the college team, which participates in the AoC (Association of Colleges) Cup and other local college leagues. The team will work on skill development, tactical awareness, and fitness levels to play badminton. This is done through coaching and also support from other members of the team to allow everyone to develop and improve their game.

How can I join?

Badminton is open to any Chichester College student – just come along to one of the sessions and join in.

Training

The club meets twice a week in the Sports Centre:

Tuesdays: 4.30pm-6pm
Wednesdays: 1.15pm-2.15pm

These are fun, enrichment sessions for players of all abilities.

Chichester College is committed to creating a safe, happy, disciplined learning environment where all players are given the opportunity to strive for excellence, with support from coaching staff, who set high standards.

Our philosophy is based around the new England D.N.A., incorporating the 4 corner model supporting development in technical, physical, social and psychological.

Chichester College wants to play an attractive brand of possession based football, therefore we recognise the need for all players to become skilled and confident technically, who are comfortable in possession, developing an understanding and desire to learn and love the game.

Our Academy Coaching Philosophy is based on the principles of football; these fundamental techniques are consistent across all playing styles and formations, giving our players the best chance to play in any team.

Worthing FC training programme
We also have a partnership with Worthing Football Club. This programme is a full-time football and education course which gives aspiring young players the opportunity to combine their academic studies with a comprehensive football training schedule.

The Rugby Academy at Chichester College is proud to be an RFU (Rugby Football Union) Focus College.

The college, with the support of the RFU, is working to establish a robust rugby pathway through further education for players of all abilities. We are working alongside Hampshire and Sussex RFUs as well as regional academies, such as Harlequins and London Irish to provide excellent rugby experiences for students at Chichester.

The role of the Rugby Academy is to identify and develop talented young athletes from age 16 to 19 and engage them in a high-performance development programme. Players can become part of the academy through a variety of routes - the only essential criteria are that they are students of the Chichester College Group.

The academy is underpinned by the outstanding education available at Chichester College, thus providing the necessary structure for each player to reach their full potential. We provide our young players with an environment in which they can grow, express themselves both personally and professionally, and achieve their dream of becoming professional rugby players.

Academy Vision

  • To identify, recruit and develop, from all sources, the most talented young players and bring them through the academy into their respective first XV squad.
  • To adopt a comprehensive recruitment policy in Sussex and Hampshire.
  • To provide top class coaching by qualified staff to give each Academy player the best opportunity to succeed.
  • To provide the most appropriate individual player development, mentoring and support programmes.
  • To provide the most appropriate competitive program for each player and to constantly review performance in training and matches.
  • To provide the best possible facilities for our players to succeed.
  • To provide the opportunity for academy players to continue in further or higher education.
  • To build good working relationships with other local schools, clubs, colleges and universities.
  • To teach responsibility, discipline and respect for themselves and the game; and
  • To set high standards for integrity, honesty and performance.
