Student’s dedication recognised through awards

A Chichester College student was named runner up in the recent annual Keith Fletcher Memorial Awards.
Patrick Munn, who studied Access to HE (Higher Education) Humanities and Social Sciences, recently found out that he not only won an award for Outstanding Academic Achievement through LASER, but he also placed second in the prestigious Keith Fletcher Awards.
Nominated by Madeline Bailey, course leader for Access to HE Humanities and Social Sciences, Patrick was automatically entered into the Keith Fletcher Award after his successful win last year.
Madeline said: “I’m not the slightest bit surprised that Patrick has gone on to be acknowledged for both amazing awards.
“From the very first day Patrick excelled exceptionally and remained consistency dedicated throughout his journey here at the college.”
It was Patrick’s final essay ‘To what extent were the terrorist attacks of 9/11 preventable’ which stood out, not only to lecturers and fellow students at the college but also external examiners and professionals in the humanities and social sciences industry.
Pleasantly surprised and humbled, Patrick revealed: “I was so shocked to discover that I had won and come runner up for such a huge award.
“Being acknowledged for my hard work through the Laser Awards has really capped off my incredible journey at Chichester College.”
Now in the next part of his educational journey, studying for a degree in Politics at the University of Chichester, Patrick shared that his early educational experiences saw him struggle with confidence – something that changed at Chichester College thanks to the support of his course tutor.
Patrick added: “As someone who has had previous poor experiences in education, having a lecturer like Maddie has made all the difference.
“Due to a litany of issues in my personal life, I did not have an overwhelming amount of personal confidence when I started the course.
“My experiences on this course have changed that and I feel I have grown as a person, made some great friends along the way and it has opened up my eyes to different career paths.”
