COURSE OVERVIEW
The T Level in Health includes a specific Dental Nursing route. This is an exciting new, 2 year course that combines a mixture of technical knowledge and work placement to give you the skills and experience you need to work within dentistry. Over the 2 years you will complete over 900 hours of work experience, where you have the opportunity to gain paid employment.
The first year gives an overview of working within the health and science sector, which as well as dental nursing also includes nursing, mental health support and therapy teams. You will cover the importance of infection control and person-centred care, as well as good clinical and scientific practice. Alongside your theory based sessions you will also be attending placement.
In the second year you will focus on your the skills needed in dental nursing, this will require you to practically demonstrate skills, adhering to General Dental Council (GDC) standards.
If you want to become a Dental Nurse or Dental Technician, then this is the course for YOU! You will be able to continue your study if you want to train to become a dentist. This is a great opportunity for you to work alongside professionals, become part of the team and put theory into practice. It lets you find out if this is the career of your dreams.

You need to have a passion to work in dentistry and have excellent social skills.
A lot of T Level are restricted by age, it’s not the same for the T Level in Health for the Dental Route – we accept students who are 16 +
Minimum GCSEs: You will need 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above, including English Language and Mathematics. Previous work experience within customer service roles, or health and social care will support your application. You will also need to be successful at interview and create a substantial portfolio (summer task) showcasing your commitment to the course.

This course is a direct employment route to become a Dental Nurse or Dental Technician.
It also gives you access to higher education, or higher level apprenticeships.
You will have a mix of formal assessments and exams. Formal assessments include practical activities like dealing with patients and working with a dentist.
Year 1
2 written examinations (Paper A & Paper B)
An Employer Set Project – A practical task where you apply your knowledge to dental scenarios. This is carried out as a controlled assessment where there are a number of tasks, that allow you to shine.
You will also complete a bridging module, that ensure you have the core knowledge and skills for industry placement.
Year 2
There will be a number of work placement related tasks, including:
• an e-portfolio (with the primary function of allowing entry onto an industry work placement)
• an e-journal (which allows demonstration of General Dental Council (GDC) standards)
• a structured observation (SOA) (assessed in the workplace)
• a case study assessment (CSA)
• an objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) (assessed in the provider setting)
• a professional discussion (PDA)
There are no costs for joining the T Level in Dental.
You will have to purchase your uniform to wear at you placement. You will also need to buy the text book for you course, as well as normal stationary and folders to support your study.
The exit award will be a T level in the subject area specialism, awarded by a nationally recognised educational awarding body. It will be graded with a pass, merit or distinction, with grades also highlighted to future employers within the core and specialist skills area.
They would undergo a disclosing and barring check and receive an occupational health screening and a hepatitis B vaccination, CPR and safeguarding training so they have undergone the necessary checks to take an active part in health care delivery during their industry placement. This will increase their employment chances on completion of the T level award.
