COURSE OVERVIEW
In Independence + you will increase your independence skills and be given the skills to access the community, independent living within your own individual capabilities and towards employment. This will help you prepare for adult life, community work, employment or further studies.
Units you will cover are:
- Healthy living
- Life skills
- Maths and English
- Developing soft skills
FURTHER INFORMATION
You will need an interest in becoming more independent and developing skills for work. Your suitability for the programme will be assessed both before joining the programme and during the first six weeks of the course.
The outcome of your programme will be a planned transition onto a higher level of study or community run projects.
We will provide a stimulating environment and range of opportunities to develop your skills and practice independence in a safe setting. Your progress will be reviewed through out the year and measured through individual target setting. Your development will be discussed at regular progress and transition reviews.
These skills will include:
- Increasing independence in the home and college
- Achieving your life goals
- Making friends and understanding relationships
- Building confidence with going to the shops and using money and making choices about what to buy
- Learning Meal preparation skills which can be used at home and making healthy choices
- Beginning to learn work skills
- Maths, English & ICT
- Keeping safe at work and in the community
- Making a positive contribution to the community
- Following a travel training course to develop road safety and travel awareness
There may be costs towards cooking and trips that may take place in the year.
