FURTHER INFORMATION
You will need to have achieved a minimum of a grade 4 or above in five GCSEs, including English Language, and Maths. Entry is also subject to a successful interview and consideration of prior learning, achievement and attendance.
The intention is that you will continue onto the Extended Diploma in your second year, which would consist of another set of subject specific units where you will focus on project management tools and techniques, and software development in a project-based frame. You will also have the opportunity to select from modules which would allow you to specialise between technical skills and creative studies.
Upon completing the two years of study you may choose to progress on to undergraduate courses either with us, or with an external university. In the past, learners have progressed onto courses in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Cyber Security, Games Development, and many more.
Alternatively, you could progress into employment or an apprenticeship if you would like to.
Apart from a couple of modules that are assessed externally, the majority of our units are assessed separately, by a variety of means, ranging from video and audio submissions to presentations and practical work. They will each be assessed as either a Pass, Merit or Distinction. Assessment is flexible for everyone!
All equipment will be supplied, although access to a modern PC with the capability of running the suggested software would be strongly advised.
All learners below the age of 19 on the 1st of September will be able to undertake this course with no additional charge, however those that are 19 or older will have to secure funding to support them. Please see our financial support team with any queries or questions in regard to this.
Work experience is a key and fundamental core to this course, and as such, every learner is expected to undertake a minimum of 35 hours work outside of the college.
This would ideally be within the computing industry, however work experience of a transferable skill set would also be acceptable following a discussion at interview.
It is therefore advisable to attempt to secure your work placement for the academic year following acceptance onto the course.
