Our range of leisure and hobby courses keeps growing, with even more fun and exciting courses starting throughout 2024.
COURSE OVERVIEW
The course is aimed at at anyone interested in developing a career in various sectors of computing. The focus is on the learner developing a range of computing skills by studying these units: Programming, Network design, Database Design, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Security, Professional Practice.
The course will have a Project unit with a set theme and a unit to develop non-technical skills to ensure that the learner has the skills to transition into employment.
The course prides itself on its year on year high success rate and many students who have graduated have gone onto full time employment with the computing sector.
We have good professional relationship with a local employer who has recruited some of our graduates.
FURTHER INFORMATION
The course is suitable for anyone with a Level 3 qualification or above and anyone coming from a job in the computing sector, or wants to retrain. The course is considered equivalent to the first year of a University degree. So the standard is at that level and the expectations are that anyone interested in joining the course has a good foundation of computing knowledge. They do not need to be experts or have many years of experience.
After completing the course most students continue onto the HND (Year 2) computing course. Some have gone onto full time work within the Computing sector.
Assessment will be in the form of typed reports, practical activities, small group work, presentations and other methods. There are no exams on the course. However, there may be occasional tests to assist with the assessment and will form part of the learning process.
We currently deliver CISCO CCNA Networking, Routing and Switching as part of the course in some of the modules to provide learners with the foundation knowledge to go on to become qualified with CISCO. Additionally, we include elements of the Comptia Security + course, to also provide learners with the foundation skills to go on to become certified with Comptia.
Please note that CISCO and Comptia Security + are embedded within some of the units. They are NOT offered as separate courses and there is no qualification with the College. This will be an option available to the learner if they choose to do this independently.
The course is delivered in up to date computer labs with high specification equipment, which runs on a separate ‘lab’ network. This allows the learners to have plenty of access to labs with practical equipment to develop their learning and skills. We pride ourselves on providing this environment as our small cohort of students can spend much of their lecture time in the labs.
There are no requirements for the learners to purchase their own equipment or bring in their own equipment as everything is provided. However, some learners may want to purchase their own equipment such as Laptop or software.
There are no additional costs to the course fees. If a learner wants to achieve certification with CISCO or Comptia, etc. then they will need to fund this themselves.
